Exclamation Alien Assault Manual v1.7

PDF version
http://www.mediafire.com/?hk7pg5c2a4933hc
http://www.4shared.com/office/jpx-UO...NUAL_v1_7.html
Size: 865 231 Bytes, 891KB unzipped

Or if your interested in an editable version (made it with Open Office which is free)
http://www.mediafire.com/?hw6zi5mxwkwkw8i
http://www.4shared.com/zip/ltR9XDxQ/..._v1_7_odt.html
Size: 2 119 KB, 2,086KB unzipped

I tried uploading to Strategy Informer too, but they don't like my email address. Either because it's a .net address or else because it's sbcglobal (I think AT&T has been phasing it out). If someone else wants to, feel free.

Anyway, MANY improvements to this version.
Several rules fixes.
Many rule expansions.
MANY new rule sections (most of the critical ones were in v1.6 already)
LOADS of pics and examples.
PDF format
Table of Contents
And OOOOH, it's pretty. (could be prettier, but I don't plan to do that).

This version is as just about as complete as it will get (trust me it's comprehensive, including a tactics section).
The only thing significant not in there that I'm aware of, is making addon material which will be a separate manual (I'm not starting it this month).

As always, feedback is welcome.

====== edit ======= I'll try to list any missed or incorrect info here in the first post so there's less digging around for it.
1--- Pits You can see across them but can't move onto them. May or may not be entry points as well.
2--- Hybrid melee roll 1d6-2 not 1d6.
3--- overwatch - Hybrid gun I'm not sure, but I think the AA code allows it, but since Hybrids use the AI of standard aliens, I don't think it's allowed to happen.
4--- ?

Thank you. That is quite an effort you put there.
I suggest justifying alignments before making the pdf, for a more professional look.

Great work, Killgore!! Suggestions:
- Horizontal orientation
- Justifying alignments.

Thank you very much for giving the game a proper manual.

No problem, I'm happy to put the manual out.

Admittedly, it has a lot more info than most people are interested in. I figure it's better to have as much info available as possible, most of the time.

I might or might not make it prettier in the future.

As I get feedback or discover something new, I'll add new/revised info to the first post. If you check it now, you'll see that I already started a list with 3 items in it. If/when there are enough of them, I'll put out a new version.

I forgot about the center/outer ring property. HOWEVER...

By the definition of blips, you will never see the center of a fuzzy blip. As soon as you have LOS to it's center square, it will at least partially convert to aliens. The only way firing a flamethrower could target the center is by having the outer ring in LOS while the center is out of LOS. Self destruction could also potentially hit the center, but nothing else could.

The question that raises is this:
Can/Will getting LOS to the square that was a fuzzy blip's center (up to that point) force the creation of a new fuzzy blip with a different center.

Unfortunately, knowing whether or not it works that way in the SH board game isn't relevent. It all depends on how blips were implemented by the dev team when they were programming.

There ARE differences between AA and the board game.

Unless my memory is wrong, the crates are flammable, so it would be also possible by firing on a blip hiding on the other side of a crate.

No. It will force the blip to reveal.

I had to double check about the crates because they block LOS/LOF, but you are correct. Technically self destruction could do it too, but that's a rather extreme solution.

And thanks for closing the other thread. From past experience, I know it can be a pain chasing down info from multiple threads, each one being many pages long. I know there are several more that started like that one, wondering about a manual, but I think they're buried enough that it won't be a problem.

I suggest adding the manual to the main page of teardown under Alien Assault.

Not a bad idea to sticky the thread, but it's not up to me. At this point it's not a major problem because there generally aren't that many new threads.

You will loose sustained fire bonus:
  • when performing an action that is not firing your weapon (full auto is not counted as firing your weapon)
  • when ending your round
  • when activating overwatch
  • when shooting at another target
  • when you run out of ammo
  • when your weapon jams
You will not lose sustained fire bonus if you switch to another soldier, however you will lose any chance of free fire after moving.
The roll of 3 refers to an using an assault carbine. It would hit with a Vulcan Cannon.

Just correct the page 12, chapter Sustained Fire. It should be:

1st shot (+0)
2nd shot (+1)
3rd shot+ (+2)

Also delete the "NOTE: Switching marines resets the sustained fire bonus to 0." because of misrepresentation.

I'll leave the note because it is accurate and some people could get confused about the bonus if the note isn't in there.

No, it isn't. In fact, it is not "misrepresentation", it's a mendacious nonsense. You will NOT lose sustained fire bonus if you switch to another soldier. So the only source of confusion is that note, you'll leave.

I tested it's accuracy myself. While it's possible I missed a separate factor, it's pretty unlikely. I tested the most recent version of the game.
