Marine death scream bug?

Currently testing swapping in female voices for the last 5 marines to fully test activating the female characters and got this unusual occurrence. Search didnt show any previous mentions of this so here goes...

Placed the new voices in the squad folder -snd/marine/die- and numbered the files 5-9 - mainly as I wasnt sure if 0 represented 1 or 10...
These were wav files. but so far the game hasnt shown any trooubles with taking wavs when used to replace oggs.

During play though when a character died, especially the female ones, the game would play anything but the death yells. I got gunfire, flamers and door noises on death so far.

Is this a bug? Or is it just that the female voices werent fully implemented and so the game goes nuts looking for an alternative even though the original files are still there?
