View Full Version : Having multiple armies in the game

The more I think of it the more I want to make it possible to have multiple armies present in the galaxy at the same time, basically not having to switch between them as you did in AA1 but actually fly around and basically help each other out...if needed. Say that a ship with 10 Alien Assault Force soldiers attack an alien ship but get totally run over and are killed. No more AAF ships are near by but there are a ship with 20 Children Of The Sand soldiers not too far away so they take on the chase of the alien vessel and manage to complete the campaign stopping the vessel from impacting with a colonized AAF system.

In the galaxy view you would be able to see which space ships and systems belong to a specific army.

I like this idea a lot. Having different armies present in the galaxy, maybe positioned so far away from each other that they'll never meet.

There are a few issues with this:
* Space ships from two different armies will most likely not be able to merge their soldiers into one.
* Soldiers from two armies are most likely not able to take part in the same mission at the same time.

But if we are ok with that I see no problem having 2, 3, 5 or maybe 10 armies present in your galaxy...IF we go with that approach. Or we keep the old one where you play with only one army.

Thoughts? (or maybe questions if I've not explained anything in a way you can understand)

I like this idea a lot - I guess different factions will have same weaponry?Or each faction will excede at something to distinguish themselves gameplayvise?

I welcome several chapters in the campaign (sorry, I mean legions; sorry again, Niklas: armies :lol:). It adds to the mood.

This to make it possible for an army with soldiers carrying lighter armor to be more agile but have less firepower compared to an army with soldier carrying heavy armor. There will not be different type of soldiers within an army.
However it could be possible to call them all Alien Assault Force and just think of them as different types like army, navy, spec ops and so on...

Sounds really good.

Having different chapters/legions/armies is far more evocative than having army/navy/spec ops/etc. And I think it's also better for modders and especially SH mods.

The game will not limit the modders in any way. If you want to do totally different armies or specializations within the same army it's up to you. The only thing that could be limiting is that each army must have a home system that no other army is using.

Love it..this game sounds better and better all the time.

Please, please hurry up with L2D and get onto (what I consider) the serious business of AA2!!
