I don't speak about multiplayer game on several computers but to be able to play on the same computer with 2 players or more.
1. each player plays one or more marines (choice done before the game).
2. each player plays marines or alien (choice done before the game). In this case, before each turn, a warning is shown like "MARINE'S TURN" or "ALIEN'S TURN", so the player has time to leave the screen.
1) Well, turn off the round timer, play a mission with two full squads. One plays Alpha and one plays Bravo.
2) Playing as alien was never intended and isn't something we could easily add since it would require a complete new GUI. Also if you could people would demand being able to play against AI controlled soldiers which would need a complete new AI. So no, will not be made.

ok, it seems I have to check all the options of the game!
what the possibility to play 2 squads using LAN connexion for example? Hard to code?
Thanks for your quick answers...

I believe it would be rather difficult to add at this point. There's a lot of things that would have to be changed because we never accounted for a multiplayer mode during the development, and a lot of things that would have to be added from scratch (like networking).
For the moment, perhaps you could play two squads with a friend over the net by using VNC or Remote Desktop (or whatever else there is like it)?

How about PBEM?
We are going to increase the total amount of soldiers in a mission from 10 to X (not yet decided).
I guess it could be made so that you must move first 10 soldiers and then you "end their round" and the next 10 are moved and so on. If you are playing in multiplayer you play your turn then wait until the other player has loaded your session file, played his turn, ended his round and sent his session file to next player (if that is you or a third player).

I like "Laser Squad Nemesis" system but I think that it will be hard to release. Though it would be great.

Similar to Battle Isle - both players order their troops simultaneously, and the moves are executed once the players finish giving orders.
That would not work in AA since you don't want a lot of soldiers shoot at an enemy when the first shot killed it. That's just one example. This is something we do in overwatch just to mimic the behavior of auto fire and you do not have the control.

Well I advice you to play at least demo of "Laser Squad Nemesis":

You can also try "Frozen Synapse". But I didn't play it so can't tell exactly if it is still have the same gameplay. Though you can watch a review.

Marine AI does not exist on any Space Hulk-themed game at all that I know of, nobody expects it.
Multiplayer gaming is essential to community building.
Create a LAN (for Virtual Player Network) or IP connect function where, with 2 people connected, one can play Marines and one can play Stealers.
THEN, the key is to create a chatroom on your website where fans can congregate, chat, and when they feel like it, exchange host IP addresses as to play together.
This is what they do for chess, for Virtual TableTop Games and everything else with community backing. This will make you STRONGER.
Space Hulk-themed game which has such a multiplayer function:

You can see in their Forum that no such function was given, and the community died. They posted threads about AIM/MSN address lists.
GIVE US A CHATROOM. GIVE US MULTIPLAYER
Edit:
I notice this forum is already dying. Sad. Implement my above suggested, please!

Eh,I do understand that it'd be almost impossible to implement,but...
Playing against gene-friend,or at least with fellow marine would be extremely awesome.
Suddenly,idea.
Hot seat.Yep,it is basically the same system which you are implementing now - its like having 2 squads of Marines and no aliens on board.Aliens are basically space warriors(whatever) with 6 AP and they get 0 CP every turn.
The only problem is possibility of monitoring your opponents blips, but it is not a problem if you have a honest partner. Also, you'd need to add blip placement and voluntary reveal function.
Not as awesome as LAN,but hey,it'd be a huge step. Please, think of it.
I've never seen a turn based games that plays well in multiplayer. Waiting on another player to finish is "meeh". We'll see what we can do. This might be the first that does it good.

Heroes of Might and Magick.
"Waiting for other player to finish" is not a big issue when you have timer of 60-90 seconds for both genestealers and marines.
If we have coop - two players playing soldier against alien controlled by AI - you don't want "waiting for other player" when your friend is moving. You want to be able to move at the same time and that makes everything much more complicated.
If we have player vs player it works with the "waiting for other player".
We'll see. It's not on the top of the list. First of all I want to make a better AA1 with something pulling me back to play more and more and more. Since we are an indie developer and the game is free we don't have much resources to make the game too big...if we want to release it within a reasonable time frame.

I've probably missed something Niklas but when you said that a turn based game has never went well in multiplayer how can that be true? Space Hulk was turn based and that went pretty well.

He probably meant turn based computer games. (which is disputable).
Game = computer game ofcourse. Waiting at your screen will never be fun. Waiting at the table almost as fun as playing. :)

Ah right. Thanks guys
The whole thing about table top games is that you talk to the other players all the time regarding tactics and maybe try to fool them by hinting false ideas. All this is gone in a computer game. Some may have voice communication while playing, sure then it is a bit better but still nothing like sitting at the table.
I think we would need to make a lot of adjustments to the game to make it playable in coop.
Again, we'll see how far we can take it.
