A couple days ago I resurrected TDSH v1 to play a mission with my Sgt Akriel and the white scars...
I got overconfident, the guy charged ahead towards a GS entry, thhe flamer lagged behind ... two blips just reversed direction to go for him.

It was quite desperate. Alone, at the entrance of a 3-exit room, facing 4 aliens in a 3-4 shot overwatch, plus a lurking blip that woul enter that turn ...

The bastard shot them all! 6 aliens in a single OW turn, 4 of then on the first shot, none even reached him in melee.

Akriel's legend keeps growing.

 wow,I've been hearing from Akriel from a long time,he keeps refusing to die ,maybe you can transfer him to TDAA with some editing of the chapter progress.dat file?...

My own "legend" is Sgt.Philaretus from the Ultramarines. Before becoming a sergeant,in a fatal situation (just like you,I rushed too much and ended right in an entry with genestealers already there),he killed 7 aliens on melee with lightning claws on the genestealer's turn, saving the lives of the rest of my marines (up to that point I only had 5 marines left...from the 2 squads ,yeah, that mission sucked...). He kept his sergeant rank until he got killed 2 missions later...oh well

Also,in that same mission,my thunder hammer guy killed a stealer...in his own turn...from behind. Not so much glory for him

I can have a look about transfering TDSH chapters to TDAA squads.

In TDSH, I had Raguel. He started off in the Sin of Damnation Rescue mission as one of my flamer marines. This monster of a man has survived just about everything the game could throw at him, including two runs through Spawn of Execration's murderous "Race against time". He is by far the longest serving of a squad of archangels I had in the old game. His main thing is pure survival. If there is one man to make it out of a mission, it is Raguel. Dozens of missions, hundreds of kills are to his credit. If I ever put together a space wolf army in 40k, one of them will be a terminator named Raguel.

In AA, thus far the great legend if of a man named Jorge. He made a name for himself by icing about half a dozen bugs in a single turn of overwatch, winning the day for me and my squad. This prompted me to perform bad Tony Montana (from scarface) impressions when he opened fire. Since then he has averaged over 10 kills per mission, survived being completely surrounded by bugs in Enigma and was involved in one of the most hilarious incidents I've seen.

In the mission after Abomination (the one where you have to deliver the 10 objects), he and the deceased Sgt Vanderburg set up and overwatch at opposite ends of the same corridor with an entry point in the middle, effectively shutting down the bugs entry and allowing my men to courier the items to their designated points at their leisure. Jorge gunned down the alien horde so mercilessly, that by the time Vanderburg's turn came around to fire in overwatch, the only target left was usually Jorge! Since that day, his armour has resembled the surface of the moon. It seems that even a hail of "friendly" gunfire cannot bring this man down!

In AA, thus far the great legend if of a man named Jorge. And by some strange coincidence that name sounds oddly familiar to my name.. :)
(you get no special benefits by having this name, I only find it funny that somewhere out there Jorge is kicking major swarm booty)

Please Niklas, even if it's just some document that allows me to do it by hand. Then I'll do such a transfer tool myself

Akriel is the only reason I still play TDSH from time to time.

HA! I just realized the name similarity. It's almost like someone planned it that way  .

It was near the start of Rescue mission, along the passage where two men of the first squad are initially located, stormbolter and flamer. The two men have advanced a little and a single GS is close to them. Looks like an easy situation, I got 2 CP that turn.

Stormbolter fires, fires, fires... 4AP used and no kill. Hmm, pretty unlucky but I wasn't worried at all. I didn't use the console log back then to check rolls, pity. Used a CP to fire, still no kill from all that sustained fire.Used my second and last CP to step stormbolter forward and diagonally. Flamer's the backup, flamed twice... and GS survives. Dunno the odds exactly, but 1/36 times the chances of surviving 5 consecutive stationary shots should be pretty low. And it's the current version flamer rules so the GS went on to kick their arses.

I was thinking "Whoa WTH is this, you have to push in Rescue especially at the centre so losing a marine or two there to bad luck is expected but I really hit the s*** lottery."

Oh, Rescue. That is a nasty mission if you are unlucky with CP, shooting and blip sizes. I remember one time when my marines were kill one by one. At the end I had two marines alive. One marine carried the RAT, the other tried to hold off the enemies. At the end I had to use all AP and CP for the RAT carrier to reach the destination square. Following enemy phase both were killed within seconds.

Still we won, the RAT was delivered to its destination. We lost 10 marines which was a failure but at the end of the day we won.

Ok,I just tried playing AA listening to music. I started listening to Annihilator, campaign: broken knife's duty...

Suddenly,my claws guy got in a berserk rage and fought more than 5 genestealers in close combat. I completed the mission faster than ever, taking way more risks than normal...and with all my soldiers intact. The entire campaign was completed with only 4 deaths in total

I guess music is beneficial after all

Bailey's first mission and he already has 53 kills and 17 melees. The mission was the one after the third level right after the cave mission on the Into the Wild Campaign.
About 45 of those kills and all of the melees were in that square area with the crashed ship.
Him, Roberts with the assualt cannon, and the sgt. made it there. While sgt. Perez was gaurding the rear the other two moved forward.
After one turn the sgt. was killed and I had to move faster. Then the aliens surrounded Roberts and killed him and he had the R.A.T. Bailey then killed all of the aliens around him and then I had him pick up the R.A.T.
After what I believe was 15 turns of shooting, melee wins and ties, some moving, more picking up, moving backwards, and quite a bit of overwatch and jams, he finally makes it. All on his first mission, alone, new, and with his glove.

I don't remember exactly but I think the medals he got were survivor, fighter, jinx, marksman, avenger, and exterminator.

How about this one: I have a vindicator cannon in OW facing a 4-square corridor. 3 aliens come out. The first two blow up with the first shot. The third one survives the 4 cannon shots ... only to die miserably in close combat!

Soldier 4 activated overwatch
Soldier 4 (Assault Cannon) rolled 5 (1,2,5)
Enemy was killed
Soldier 4 (Assault Cannon) rolled 6 (1,1,6)
Enemy was killed
Soldier 4 (Assault Cannon) rolled 3 (1,3,2)
Soldier 4 (Assault Cannon) rolled 2 (1,1,2)
Soldier 4 (Assault Cannon) rolled 3 (3,1,2)
Soldier 4 (Assault Cannon) rolled 4 (4,3,1)
Soldier 4 (Power Fist) rolled 6 (6)
Enemy rolled 5 (2,5,2)
Enemy was killed

Too long to make a signature out of it ...

EDIT: don't miss it. In the next turn, the same guy missed 3 additional OW shots! He has killed only 3 aliens with 10 cannon rounds!

At least he seems good with the Power Fist, or maybe just lucky

Maybe the Vulcan cannon had blown away all the fours arms so he just poked the enemy in the eye and killed it?

alex3337

Maybe ...

Final news about the guy. Next turn he reloads, sets OW, and the cannon malfunctions on the 3rd shot ...

Glorious

How about this one: I was playing the LV426 Aliens campaign again, only this time I played with the Childen of the Sand. We're on the "Kill the Queen" mission.

I reach the final cave with 3 guys: my vindicator and two carbines. We play the usual tactic: clean up the cave, approach with caution, do not get LOS to the queen until the last moment.

Then, the vindicator moves in: 4 AP to move into firing position, then she spends the full 5 CP shooting the beast ... she rolls an amazing amount of 1's ... panic strikes in. The Sgt also moves in, 3 AP to get in position, 2 shots (1 move & fire) ... Queen still alive.

It's the end of the turn, and my vindicator is 1 square away from the queen, the Sgt 3 squares further down. The beast is going to shred both of them to pieces :S

Or that's what you would have guessed, The vindicator guy just wasn't ready to die that day. Not only he survives he first melee with the queen, he also wins the second one, and kills an alien leader in melee combat! :w00t:

That was the end of the mission, so I couldn't get a screenshot of the log window. But the guy deserves a special type of award

Niklas
01-19-2010, 08:08
Well, he got an award for killing the queen/leader...didn't he? :)

But yes, surviving close combat with those odds also deserve something. Maybe we should give the fighter award instantly if you survive an attack from the alien leader.

I had a sergeant wound a leader in CC once. Didn't kill it, and he was torn in half a second later, but it happened.
