I am playing a mission where you must find an object and bring back it to your deployment zone. The map is big , i am in turn 34 and cant find the object. I took 4 Vulcan Cannons and they are almost out of amno, one explode.:scared:
What i am doing wrong?
What campaign, what mission?

I don't know about him, but I'm stuck on a similar mission in Infestation, called Enigma. Have to find an item, but I looked all over the map and must have missed it. Was doing so well, too, but then I ran out of ammo for the flamer and vulcan, and it went downhill fast. I lost some good men there...*sigh*

Typical, the one place I figured it wouldn't be. Oh well, back to the grindstone...
LOL!
And remember, even if your soldiers die the most important person is still alive...you...the commander...ready to launch a new squad into the alien infested horror. :)

Thanks a lot, i left the mission on stand by waiting for an answer.
Althought i had retreated a bit after the lose of one marine i could advance with another of them(Falzone) while a second (Hawkings) covered the long corridor on the left.As i took the object aliens entered from the room on my back, instead on attacking Falzone they surrounded Hawkings from three places.Hawkings ran out of ammno and was anihilated by the last alien.
Falzone had to kill 3 aliens to advance and was pursued by 5 more but i got many command points so i was able to outrun them. I put Sergeant Bryant on the top left just in case. He spent his last amno on the last turn.
Overall i ended with just 1 amno for 4 vulcan cannons, no recharges left.Only one marine was left on the deployment zone with the storm bolter.
Funny how i explored all the map except the only place where the item was, Sergeant Bryant even toured the right corner where all the alien entry points were and returned alive.
Good design.

Yeah, that mission caused some frustration for me too. My Vulcan cannon guy spent most of the game wandering around the right side of the map checking out what I thought were the most likely places for the item to be located (namely the big room and that T shaped area WAY over there). I also mistakenly expected it to be a RAT and thus I had hoped I could play the usual game of "Marco Polo" and home in on it partly by sound. When i eventually found it it was by one of my overwatching marines having a "I wonder if" moment. I even gave the mission a tagline: "All this trouble over a piece of paper"
I also found that establishing good overwatch coverage on this map to be a real pain. There was one particular area where a single bug would slip through the net and I'd have to turn one of my other marines around to help out, who the AI would prompty send a good sized blip after. I almost lost my top soldier to these sort of shennanigans. Guess by this stage in the campaign there's no reason to go easy on us though ;)

OK, I am apparently not good at finding items. Campaign: Infestation, mission: Indestructible. I'm sure I'm just missing some lousy corner again, or overlooked it when I saw it. Any help you can give is most welcome. My poor beleaguered marines would appreciate it, we already lost a good sergeant in there.
Here you have the location of the item. There is one area in which you can guess the RAT is placed in and of course it is. Use close combat weapons to make your way into this area.

Aww man, I looked there. Must have overlooked it. Back to the campaign, almost done, almost done...
EDIT: Forgot to say thank you. Thank you!
You can listen for the RAT. As you get closer the sound gets higher.

I recall I made that item a scroll. :p
RAT is the only recovery target that creates a noise. :p
Oh, ok...no point in listening for a scroll. :D Ignore my comment. ;)
Yah, I went around the whole map, overlooked that same spot as well...I was trying to detect the item location by ear, and it was nowhere to be found:)
It's tricky also coz this is the first time you are looking for an object that doesn't beep...a mission briefing telling you that you are looking for some scrolls that won't beep would be useful, otherwise you rule out places like that corner in that corridor only because you don't hear the beep.
In my case, I finally opened the map in the editor and saw where the item was:)

I actually sent a pair of vulcan armed men into that area to grab the objective. One guy went in for the objective while the other watched his back. Basically, I knew that due to the fact that any of the nearby entrypoints would be forced to lurk I had at least a turn to get as far away from them as possible. Plus, with the vulcan's lethality overwatch can usually be set without worry even with only 2 squares or so between myself and the bug. It's always going to be a close shave in this mission just due to the objective's proximity to so many entry points, but the merciless firepower of the vulcan is a pretty safe bet to get you through it. Of course, I tend to be very paranoid about close combat in this game, hence my choice of the vulcan over something like the claws

Paranoia? No way, it's reality. I'll go with a Bolter over the Claws, any day of the week. And if it's gonna be tight spaces, then the Cannon over the Bolter, any day except Friday
A small update...I noticed that I actually added code for allowing the scroll item to have a sound...in case anyone would like to mod it to be something else in a campaign.
So if you add a sound called scroll.ogg (or scroll.wav) in AlienAssault\snd\ingame\ it will act in the same way as the RAT and canister.
So if it makes a noise, instead of actual scrolls, it'd be something like:

The scrolls of the future:)
